The Online Bible
Unicode Beta Version
- This beta is for advanced users only. You must be knowledgeable with Windows and working with directories.
- We have set up the beta as a starter pack. Install this beta in a different location if you have a previous copy of the Online Bible.
- We suggest changing the name in the program and data directory paths to "BibleBeta".
- Setup will create a second icon on your desktop labeled "Online Bible 3.90 Beta". You may have to reboot before the icon will show up (recommended in either case).
- To remove the beta delete the beta icon on the desktop, the "Program Files\BibleBeta" directory and the "documents\BibleBeta" directory.
- This beta may be run on a Linux system with WineHQ. You will have to purchase the unlock code to install any extra material not included with the starter pack.
Caution! This is a Unicode version. Please see the "WhatsNew text" for more information on this feature.
This new release of the Online Bible is virtually a new program. It requires a version 2.95 or later version of the non-unicode application to be installed before you can upgrade to this new version.
It has been developed to give full support for Unicode which means that as we convert the Foreign language Bibles they will be able to display all characters.
It will only run under Windows XP but really shines under Windows VISTA. It will NOT run in the earlier Windows 9.X operating system.
It gives full support for the free Wine Interface that allows well written Windows applications to run under the Linux operating system and hopefully on Macintosh computers that use the Intel processor.
The name 'Wine' derives from the recursive acronym Wine Is Not an Emulator.
Wine is a translation layer (a program loader) capable of running Windows applications on Linux and other POSIX compatible operating systems. Windows programs running in Wine act as native programs would, running without the performance or memory usage penalties of an emulator, with a similar look and feel to other applications on your desktop.
The Wine project started in 1993 as a way to support running Windows programs on Linux. Over the years, ports for other Unixes have been added. Wine is still under development, and it is not yet suitable for general use. Nevertheless, many people find it useful in running a growing number of Windows programs.
All new releases of the Online Bible programming will give you the ability to use the Online Bible program and the following modules under Wine at no cost.
